The Corea Image Communication Institute (CICI), headed by Choi Jung-wha, will hold the "CICI Korea 2010" awards ceremony at the Grand InterContinental Seoul, Wednesday.

The Pusan (Busan) International Film Festival has been named the winner of the Korea Image Stepping Stone Award in recognition of the film gala's contribution to the promotion of the nation's image worldwide.

The Dowager Viscountess Rothermere will receive the Korea Image Stepping Stone Bridge Award, and the Korea Image Together in Harmony Award went to the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the CICI said.

Viscountess Rothermere, a Korean-born patron of the arts, has helped lay the foundation for Korean musicians to make inroads into foreign countries and actively engaged in charity and volunteer programs, a CICI official said.

Lady Rothermere is currently a trustee of the Philharmonia Orchestra. She is particularly interested in helping people with leprosy.

The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra has been acknowledged for its overseas performances in the United Nations headquarters in New York and other prestigious venues.

Prime Minister Chung Un-chan; Euh Yoon-dae, chairman of the Presidential Council on Nation Branding; maestro Chung Myung-whun; and hundreds of other dignitaries will participate in the ceremony.

To spruce up the event, the CICI plans to serve participants with "kongnamul bap,"or steamed rice with bean sprouts and other Korean foods, prepared by Bae Han-chul, kitchens director at the InterContinental.

Unlike "bibimbap" that uses hot pepper paste, the dish of bean sprouts and rice is seasoned with soy sauce.

"We are trying to offer diverse foods as part of our efforts to publicize Korean foods," the organizers said.

At the event, CICI will launch "4C (Cross Cultural Communication Center)"to boost communication and exchanges between Korea and other cultures. The establishment of the center is also aimed at promoting Korean people's global image ahead of the nation's hosting of a G20 summit here in November.

To celebrate the launch of "4C," well-known Chinese singer and wife of the Canadian Ambassador, Dadawa will perform.

Previous prize awardees of the Stepping Stone Award include singer Rain, maestro Chung Myung-whun, Cheonggye Stream and Ban Ki-moon, UN secretary general.
